One of my eyes has been misbehaving, so writing or reading is extremely difficult. Why have I had no posts in the last two days?
Well, the Houston Chronicle recommendation seems to suggest voting for the best-qualified candidate in November. In November, there will be MAGAs and Democrats.
Unfortunately, we’re still far from a place where substance matters more in down-ballot races than the trivial shortcuts voters use to make a choice. But I hope candidates like Davis Mendoza Darusman, like Nasir Malik, keep showing up. I hope they keep trying, and trying again.
Most of all, I hope that, come this general election, voters dig a little deeper.
It is laughable that the editorial staff at the Chronicle believes their research is beyond reproach and that they base their decisions strictly on who is most qualified. Maybe if I had never been interviewed by the Chronicle Editorial Board, I would be willing to believe what they claim. Time and time again, I have seen them endorse incumbents that they criticize and then come out and say, ” We will give them another chance. I was so insulted that when the person who did the recommendations passed away, I quietly celebrated that another bigot had passed away.
Silvia Treviño for Precinct 6, Dem
… Her challenger in the Democratic primary, Art Aguilar, 49, is a former Precinct 6 deputy who has some good ideas and understands the office’s inner workings. But we believe running a multimillion-dollar agency requires more management experience than appears on his résumé.
Treviño, a former Houston police officer, didn’t respond to the editorial board’s invitations to discuss her re-election bid. In the past we’ve criticized her for gaps in her knowledge of the constable’s office and law enforcement issues.
We recommend her this year in hopes that eight years of on-the-job training have alleviated those shortcomings.
Trevino did not bother to show up for an interview. They admit she has problems, but they end it with maybe four more years she can learn. If she hasn’t learned in eight years, why would they think she would in four more years?
That is but one example; the editorial board is also in favor of a certain type of people, those who support and agree with the Gay community.
So, in November, when the election comes around, if you want to do what is right, vote straight party ticket for the Democrats, including those like the judge that they wrote about.
