HPOU and their stand on City Council’s new police regarding ICE.

I am not sure whether Douglas Griffith has an education beyond a high school diploma; he does list the following. At least six of the council members who voted for the ordinance, including the mayor, have law degrees, and they did not think it would create liability for the city or the police officers. So I am not sure why the HPOU president keeps repeating that it does. Does he know something that the lawyers don’t? The City Attorney did not mention or agree with the HPOU president, at least publicly.

He keeps mentioning that if that person they let go without waiting for ICE then goes on to commit a crime, not sure in what time period, then the officer and city would be, or could be, liable. I don’t think so, as police officers have a lot of immunity. If they are sued for something like that, I believe the City will cover the costs, and they will be paid while they are in court.

He keeps mentioning Jocelyn Nungaray; that is what MAGAs do: they keep harping about illegal criminals, taking a broad brush to paint them all as criminals. If he honestly believes that, then maybe we should arrest and put in jail all young white men who own guns; they tend to commit a lot of mass killings, especially in schools.

The two people who murdered the young girl were not apprehended at the border.

So, how did Trump do when he was president?

Based on analysis of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) records regarding the period of the Trump administration (2017–2021), FOIA records indicate that 10,738 noncitizens who entered the U.S. after Donald Trump took office were later arrested and convicted of crimes (excluding immigration-related offenses and smuggling).

Here are the key details regarding this data:

  • Convictions for New Crimes: The 10,738 figure specifically refers to individuals who entered, were not initially deported, and subsequently committed crimes while in the U.S..
  • Nature of Crimes: These convictions include serious crimes, such as homicide, sexual assault, and robbery, according to ICE records.
  • Releases: During this period, the administration also released nearly 58,184 noncitizens with previous criminal records (including 8,620 violent criminals and 306 murderers) due to various policy shifts, such as the focus on family separation, which deprioritized the prosecution of some migrants with criminal histories.

What the HPOU representative is doing is something that Republicans have mastered: how to make Muslims, Illegals, transgender people, or anyone else that they are targeting a bogeyman. I personally believe that the majority of them are based on simple racism on the part of the purveyors of the message and the people who are receptive to the message; that is my personal opinion.

I don’t know who that black male speaker was, but he said they had already approved the previous ordinance. He is misinformed; they had not voted on a previous ordinance. It is a Fox channel, so I expect racist type messages and people who are racist to be the majority of the people they invite.

Why not wait an hour or two, or until ICE appears, or, even better, take all those with administrative warrants to jail and let the sheriff’s department deal with them? The sheriff’s department will hold them till ICE comes.
