Thumbs down:
Paxton isn’t the only politician facing ethics allegations. The Texas Ethics Commission has formally received a complaint that Houston Mayor John Whitmire inappropriately used his $60,000 taxpayer-funded podcast to promote his own political campaign. Of course, politicians using their offices for self-promotion is nothing new. The bigger sin is that the podcast is boring. Rather than have the mayor awkwardly droll on about the goings on at City Hall, Whitmire should just tell fun stories about his time in the Texas Legislature. Spill the tea, Boogie. Now that would be worth every cent.
Why do the serial killer or killers dump bodies in the bayous?
In the longer term, though, the utility fund faces significant challenges. Our wastewater system leaks like a sieve, which means we regularly dump untreated sewage into our bayous and streams. The city has been under a series of consent decrees with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency since the 1980s for violating the Clean Water Act. And of course, we have all heard the reports about the freshwater system losing billions of gallons each year through leaks. There is still a lot of work to be done.
