Not only did I predict that Alejandra Solis would win, but that it would not be close.
Alejandra Salinas won the runoff election Saturday for the at-large seat on City Council by clinching more than 57% of the vote. Dwight Boykins, a lobbyist and former City Council member, trailed with 43%.
I expect Salinas will come out the winner, as Boykin does not have the Congressional 18th getting out the vote. Salinas will get the progressive votes and the gay votes, and they have a history of returning to vote on runoffs when one of their candidates is in the race. Salinas will get the vast majority of Hispanic votes, but Hispanics don’t typically return to vote. Boykins, based on what I have seen on FOX 26, will probably get the majority of Republican votes; he seems to be channeling his campaign in that direction. I don’t think the election will be that close.
