John Whitmire stated the following;
Mayor John Whitmire told City Council members on Friday that Controller Chris Hollins plans to certify his landmark contract with the Houston firefighters’ union, clearing the way for a vote after two weeks of delay.
Well it seems that was not true;
Hollins rejected this claim Friday evening in a social post on Instagram saying:
“The mayor doesn’t speak for me or my office. I appreciated the meeting with the mayor’s team, which was long overdue. The commitment I made was to review their written responses promptly and to make my decision regarding certification after my office has completed our due diligence. We are working expeditiously to do just that. Our goal is and always has been to protect the taxpayers of the City of Houston. The politics at play have no bearing on the work of the controller’s office.”

One could give the mayor the benefit of the doubt and put the blame on the staff that met with the Controller. But if that is the case they should be fired on Monday for the misinformation.
What is wrong with the Mayor meeting with the Controller? What is wrong with Whitmire that he refuses to meet people who don’t kowtow to his perceived greatness?
Whitmire likes to quote the percentage that he won the run-off. Well, he won because of the votes that the Republicans gave him. He owes his win to the MAGA cult, and he is acting the way they would expect him to act, in my opinion. If he was so greatly admired there would not have been a run-off.
