One thing I still do is read. I read a lot, mostly on the internet now, but I still read books; over the past few years, nearly 200 books. Recently, I started buying and reading books about Texas, specifically about Tejanos, their lives, and their treatment. If I came across something, I would check whether any newspapers carried the news from those days; today, I found a passage and went to search. Sure enough, it was there. October 1929, the wording was very similar to what one could expect to read today: families separated, citizens deported, because they were or looked “Mexican.” Like the Phoenix, the hate rises again 100 years later.
