Meme, the Incredible Shrinking Tejano

I used to be five feet seven inches tall. Now I measure five feet five. Nobody asked my permission, and nobody can tell me where the missing two inches went. After all those years picking cotton and working construction, you would think I had earned the right to keep my full height.

Robert Reich says Mercury is shrinking too. I sympathize, but Mercury has no driver’s license to update and no pants dragging on the floor. Let the astronomers worry about Mercury. I have my own alterations to consider.

Apparently, this happens as we age. Our spinal discs flatten, our posture changes, and little by little we get shorter. I thought retirement meant fewer responsibilities. I didn’t realize it also meant less Tejano.

If this continues, someday Gloria will look around and ask, “Where is Meme?” I’ll be right there, still arguing, but she may have to lower her eyes.

My opinions remain full size. So far, nobody has noticed any shrinkage in those.
